About the Finance Team

The Thumbtack Finance team’s mission is to be a strategic finance partner to the business — enabling better decisions supported by data, building a world-class finance function, and doing it all with integrity. We work closely with every part of the organization to connect financial insight to business outcomes and help Thumbtack grow responsibly. Our team values clear thinking, sound analysis, and a genuine partnership with the leaders we support.

About the role

As the Senior Manager, Partnerships and Special Projects Business Finance, you’ll help define how we grow our business through our network of partners, build frameworks that enable us to scale efficiently, and influence strategic decision-making.

This role will build the financial framework that powers one of our biggest growth levers. You’ll partner with Product, Marketing, Operations, Sales, and Finance leaders to evaluate where we should invest, how to scale partnerships profitably, and where opportunities exist to expand into new verticals. Approximately 25% of the role will focus on special projects designed to build scalable frameworks that help keep both sides of the marketplace in equilibrium and guide investment decisions accordingly.

This is a strategic finance role for someone who can move beyond reporting and forecasting into business architecture, deal economics, decision support, and investment strategy. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, commercially minded, and comfortable bringing structure to ambiguous marketplace problems.

What you’ll do

  • Own and evolve the company’s partnership financial framework, helping teams develop sustainable financial strategies and evaluate valuation, payback periods, scenario analysis, and revenue-share structures

  • Establish reporting infrastructure and KPI dashboards to monitor the ongoing ROI of partnerships, hold cross-functional partners accountable to financial commitments, and identify actions to improve performance when results are off track

  • Develop business cases for major partner investments, pricing levers, supply acquisition, demand generation, and operational capacity

  • Support annual planning, quarterly business reviews, and resource allocation by connecting partnership strategy and execution to the company’s financial goals

  • Build executive-ready narratives that clearly explain marketplace performance, investment tradeoffs, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions

  • Partner with Analytics and Data Science to build dashboards and decision tools that give business leaders visibility into partnership health and investment performance

  • Lead special projects focused on developing scalable financial frameworks that inform marketplace investment decisions and help maintain healthy supply-and-demand dynamics

In order to be successful, you must bring

  • 6+ years of experience in strategic finance, FP&A, marketplace strategy, business operations, corporate strategy, consulting, analytics, or a related function

  • Strong financial modeling skills, including experience with driver-based models, cohort models, unit economics, LTV/CAC, contribution margin, ROI analysis, scenario planning, and long-range planning

  • Strong understanding of marketplace dynamics, including supply-and-demand balance, liquidity, matching, utilization, pricing, incentives, retention, and monetization

  • Ability to translate complex analysis into clear, actionable recommendations for senior executives and cross-functional partners

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to build concise executive narratives and influence stakeholders across Finance, Product, Marketing, Sales, and Operations

  • SQL, BI, AI fluency, or data visualization experience preferred but not required, depending on the analytics support model

Expected salary ranges

  • For candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, San Jose, New York City, or Seattle metros, the expected salary range for the role is currently $191,300.00 - $247,500.00.

  • For candidates living in Austin, TX or Washington DC metros or in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Washington states, the expected salary range for the role is currently $172,600.00 - $223,300.00.

  • For candidates living in all other US locations, the expected salary range for this role is currently $162,400.00 - $210,100.00.

Finance Senior Manager, Commissions at Chainguard

Designs and manages sales commission structures, calculations, and payouts while partnering with sales and finance teams to optimize compensation plans.

Senior Posted 6 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

Chainguard is the trusted source for open source. By delivering hardened, secure, and production-ready builds of all the open source software engineers and AI agents rely on, Chainguard helps organizations build faster, stay compliant, and eliminate risk.

Our customers include Fortune 500 enterprises and global industry leaders, including Anduril, Canva, Fortinet, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, OpenAI, Snap Inc., and Snowflake.

Chainguard is venture-backed by leading investors, including Amplify, IVP, Kleiner Perkins, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Mantis VC, Redpoint Ventures, Sequoia Capital, and Spark Capital.

The role, in a nutshell:

Chainguard’s commission function is largely owned by one person today, and we’re looking to change that. We’re hiring a Commission Manager to build real redundancy into how we design, calculate, validate, and administer sales compensation.

In this role, you’ll partner closely with Sales, Finance, and Partnerships to strengthen our commission structure and prepare it for the next stage of growth. This is not a role where you’ll learn commissions on the job. You should already be fluent in commission design, plan mechanics, and payout economics. Our sales organization moves quickly and expects timely, accurate answers.

You’ll own the technical and analytical side of commissions, including calculation, reporting, and payout validation, while also playing an active role in compensation plan design. You’ll advise on accelerators, gates, multipliers, and mega deal structures as we work to bring our commission pay rate down from an aggressive ~50% of net new bookings toward a best in class benchmark of ~20 to 25%.

You’ll also mentor and develop our Senior Financial Analyst as she progresses toward a management track and serve as a key backup who can step in and run the commission function end to end when needed.

This is a foundational hire with a significant runway. We’re not asking you to build a fully staffed team on day one, but we are asking you to own outcomes, establish scalable processes, and build the infrastructure that will allow the function to grow with the business.

What you’ll do:

  • Own hands on commission calculation, validation, and reporting, including stepping into operational work when needed rather than simply overseeing it
  • Partner directly with functional leaders across Sales, Solutions Engineering, and Partnerships to evaluate what’s working in our compensation plans and where they need to flex
  • Advise on compensation plan design, including accelerator gates, multiplier structures, and payout mechanics, and bring data backed recommendations to leadership discussions
  • Own commission structuring for mega deals as we close increasingly large transactions in the $4M to $5M+ range
  • Help drive our commission pay rate from approximately 50% of net new bookings toward a 20 to 25% benchmark
  • Manage global commission plans across approximately five plan types, including Account Executives, Solutions Engineers, Partnerships, BDRs, and Renewals, across multiple geographies
  • Mentor and develop our Senior Financial Analyst as she grows toward a management role
  • Play a key role in compensation plan design and strategy discussions
  • Build scalable processes, documentation, controls, and infrastructure to support the continued growth of the commission function

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience owning commissions at a high growth software company, ideally supporting a sales organization of 300 to 400+ representatives
  • Proven experience in commission design, not just calculation and execution, including familiarity with accelerator structures, plan optimization, and payout economics
  • Experience structuring commissions for mega deals and other complex, large transactions
  • Experience with commission management and administration tools is required; experience with EverStage is a plus but not required
  • Comfort operating in a fast paced environment where the business expects quick turnaround without compromising accuracy
  • Strong executive presence and the ability to engage in peer level conversations with Sales and Finance leadership on compensation strategy
  • Experience managing global compensation programs across multiple plan types and geographies is a plus

Why This Role:

This role is an opportunity to build redundancy, bring deeper commission design expertise to the organization, and become a strategic partner to Sales leadership. You’ll help identify where our compensation plans are too rich, where they aren’t driving the right behaviors, and where they need to be redesigned.

As Chainguard continues to scale, the scope and impact of this role will grow with it. For the right person, this is an opportunity to help shape how commissions work across the company and build a function that can scale alongside the business.

Base Salary Range

$174,000—$205,000 USD

About Us

We live and breathe our company values:

  • We are customer obsessed — We focus on delivering solutions to our customers that create value and make their lives better.
  • We have a bias for intentional action — We prioritize, plan, try things, and fail fast.
  • We don’t take ourselves too seriously (but we do serious work) — We are solving an important problem which takes focus, but we also like to enjoy the journey.
  • We trust each other and assume good intentions — We’re transparent with decisions to empower team members to make well informed decisions.

A few of the benefits we offer:

  • Flexible & Remote-First Culture: Work remotely with team meetup opportunities, bi-annual destination summits, and a monthly stipend for coworking spaces, phone and internet costs.
  • Our Approach to Equity: Receive stock options upon hire and promotion. Plus, you can participate in secondary offerings and have 10 years to exercise your options (yes, you read that correctly: 10 years!).
  • 100% Covered Health Insurance: We cover 100% of your health, vision and dental insurance premiums for you and your dependents. Nothing comes out of your paycheck.
  • ∞ Flexible Time Off: Take the time you need – to do our best work, we need to recharge and reset.
  • 18 Weeks Paid Parental Leave: We offer 18 weeks for birthing parents and 12 weeks for non-birthing parents, with the option to use it all at once or throughout your child’s first year.

If your experience is close but doesn’t fulfill all requirements, please apply. We’re building the best team in technology and are focused on hiring “Chainguardians” with unique backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.

Chainguard is an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate based upon race, religion, color, national origin, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, reproductive health decisions, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, status as a protected veteran, status as an individual with a disability, genetic information, political views or activity, or other applicable legally protected characteristics. We also consider qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with applicable federal, state and local law.

Our dedication to remote-first work, and strong culture of connection and global inclusion means that no matter your location, you’re part of a vibrant team with diverse experiences making a global impact each day. Also, while we are a remote-first company, you may be asked to report in person on an ad-hoc basis for team gatherings, functional off-sites or customer meetings.

.

See yourself at Twilio

Join the team as Twilio’s next Senior Telecom Billing Specialist.

About the job

This position will be responsible for working constructively with our customers and partners to resolve billing issues and fraudulent misuse of services.

We are seeking a sharp, highly data-oriented, and tenacious Telecom Billing Specialist to join our team. Unlike a traditional billing or collections role focused on routine outreach or simple invoice review, this position is a hybrid of financial investigation, root cause analysis, and strategic dispute negotiation.  In this role, you will look for billing discrepancies, investigate Artificially Inflated Traffic (AIT) or IRSF (International Revenue Share Fraud), dig deep into messaging and call data, project manage high-value customer and vendor disputes, and build data-backed cases to resolve discrepancies. You will build dashboards to communicate key metrics and drive action. If you love solving complex data puzzles, negotiating with external parties, and finding win-win outcomes, this is the role for you.

You will be part of a company that is the category leader in Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS), an organization working with the largest customers and partners, and a team of operators and former consultants that have delivered exceptional impact. If you have an extreme owner / founder mindset and a desire to solve big challenges, you’ll find yourself at home.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Advise account managers, accounting, and management on best practices to handle billing disputes
  • Negotiate with customers and carriers with an understanding of resolution levers available as per contractual terms and industry norms
  • Identify, analyze, and handle fraudulent misuse (such as Artificially Inflated Traffic) and billing errors (such as rate differences) with both vendors and customers
  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of customer and vendor disputes from intake of disputes to initiating disputes, tracking progress, and ensuring timely, documented resolution
  • Uncover and resolve discrepancies, overcharges, and unpaid balances with carriers and customers due to quantities, rates, currency, and other root causes
  • Dig into call and messaging data to identify why bills don’t match or find evidence of fraud
  • Build dashboards that communicate key metrics related to the lifecycle of disputes
  • Read contracts and interpret what should be the invoice versus what it is
  • Act as the primary point of contact to negotiate dispute resolutions, settlements, and payment terms in accordance with company practices
  • Partner closely with data analytics, engineering, and accounting to reconcile accounts

Qualifications

Not all applicants will have skills that match a job description exactly. Twilio values diverse experiences in other industries, and we encourage everyone who meets the required qualifications to apply. While having “desired” qualifications make for a strong candidate, we encourage applicants with alternative experiences to also apply. If your career is just starting or hasn’t followed a traditional path, don’t let that stop you from considering Twilio. We are always looking for people who will bring something new to the table!

Required:

  • 8+ years of professional experience in telecom billing, revenue assurance, wholesale SMS billing settlements, and/or CPaaS fraud operations.
  • Sharp written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience negotiating disputes constructively with customers or vendors.
  • Experience in collections, dispute resolution, or billing analysis.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience wrangling data with Excel / Google Sheets, Looker or SQL.

Desired:

  • Understanding of the A2P SMS ecosystem, international traffic routing, international revenue share fraud (IRSF), artificially inflated traffic (AIT) and the ecosystem profit chains.
  • Understanding of industry standards with respect to AIT and fraud handling such as frameworks from i3forum, GSMA, MEF or ITW Global Leaders’ Forum.
  • Understanding of Call Detail Records (CDRs) and ability to build strong dispute case files.
